In the news today...

So I was reading some news stories online earlier since I gave up on actually being able to hear the TV long enough to hear a full story lol.  Anyway, I scanned through the stories and one in particular caught my eye, a 6 year old girl was handcuffed and taken to the police station because she was throwing a temper tantrum at school and not only was a danger to herself but she injured the principal and was uncontrollable.  Here is a link to the story for those of you who haven't seen/read it.  http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/6-old-girl-handcuffed-police-over-tantrum-001249882.html
OK, so here is my opinion on the matter.  This kid was not only being an out of control brat but she was a danger to herself and other people.  The principal got injured during her outburst and no one could get her to calm down.  Had a teacher or the principal tried to hold her or restrain her to calm her down they would have been brought up on child abuse charges.  What shocks me even more than the horrible behavior of the child is the way the mother responded to the whole situation.  She is trying to get protests together and is trying to get Al Sharpton involved  Here is the quote from the article.  "However, Johnson's parents are trying to organize a community protest against the officer's actions, including reported plans to contact civil rights activist and MSNBC host Al Sharpton."  Forgive me if I am wrong here, but everything I have ever seen Al Sharpton get involved in is based on race.  Why is it necessary for him to get involved unless this mother is planning on screaming that her daughter was handcuffed and taken to the police station because shes African American?  I don't understand this one ya'll.  The other quote that literally made my jaw drop was directly from the mother and the way she dismissed her child's behavior astounds me!  Here's the quote "She has mood swings some days, which all of us had mood swings some days," Johnson's mother Constance Ruff told WMAZ. "I guess that was just one of her bad days."  OK, I get that we all have bad days, we are human and we are all entitled to have shitty days and days where we want to just pitch an all out hissy fit.  BUT THAT IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS CHILD'S BEHAVIOR AT ALL!!!!  This all comes back to the whole parenting thing.  This is exactly what is wrong with kids today.  They aren't made to take responsibility for their actions, instead their parents dismiss what they have done with no consequences.  The article does not state anywhere that the little girl has any emotional problems or disorders to excuse this behavior so I am left to believe that this is a case of failed parenting.  Bust her ass make her apologize for her actions/behavior to everyone that witnessed it and make her do chores around the house to EARN the money it will take to fix or replace the things she destroyed.  Make HER responsible for her actions and punish her at the same time.  Life lesson! I'm going to leave it at that because I have already ranted about poor parenting once this week and I think that is more than enough lol.

Onto other news today.  There is a 17year old MAN who will not be allowed to walk at his graduation because he missed 2 days over the allowed amount of days because he was not only working 2 jobs but taking care of his mother who has cancer.  The school districts rules say that students can only miss so many days of school per year and if they go over that amount of days they will not be allowed to walk at their graduation ceremony.  In most cases I would agree with this rule, however I believe that they should make an exception for this young man due to the circumstances.  He was doing what was right for his MOTHER, he was working 2 jobs and taking her to her chemo appointments and caring for her when she was too ill to care for herself.  He was doing all of that while keeping good enough grades to play on the school baseball team and keeping up with all of his assignments.  Obviously he was keeping his grades up if he is still graduating.  I am asking you to sign the petition to support him and hopefully change the school boards mind!  Here is a link to the page. http://www.change.org/petitions/allow-austin-fisher-to-walk-and-graduate-with-his-2012-class-after-caring-for-his-sick-mom?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition&utm_term=share_with_facebook_friends
If anyone deserves support its this guy.  There aren't too many young people out there that would give up their time and money to care for someone else.  Kudos to you Austin Fisher!

Well I am off here to get ready for my dr's appt.  As always comments are welcome and please share my page with your friends :)

  1. Fully agreed and ironically enough saw another example of this at work today, mother called in to demand credit for data charges on her phone, her child was the one who used it... The woman didn't deny that her daughter used the service in fact she admitted it but felt we should be the one to bite the bullet instead of disciplining her daughter. Not as extreme as the news story but kinda the same topic...
